T02 B: Give Teeth a Chance & When Teeth Don’t Stand a Chance

Course Description: Give Teeth a Chance & When Teeth Don’t Stand a Chance explores the evolving decision-making process in managing compromised teeth. This course reviews the 2017 AAP Periodontal Classification system and its role in diagnosis and prognosis. Participants will examine emerging trends in periodontal regenerative surgery, biologics, and tooth reimplantation techniques, alongside critical decision points for when extraction is indicated. Special emphasis will be placed on strategies to preserve alveolar bone through ridge preservation, including the biology of bone healing, grafting materials, and evidence-based bone grafting techniques tailored to socket morphology and classification.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Apply the New AAP Classifications
Integrate the 2017 AAP periodontal classification system into clinical diagnosis and treatment planning.

• Evaluate Regenerative and Reimplantation Options
Assess the indications, biologics, and techniques for periodontal regeneration and tooth reimplantation.

• Recognize When Teeth Cannot Be Saved
Identify clinical scenarios where extraction is necessary and apply strategies for ridge preservation to maintain alveolar bone.

• Understand Bone Biology and Grafting Approaches
Describe the biology of bone healing and select appropriate grafting materials and techniques based on socket defect morphology and classification
