F03B: Cracking the Code on Orofacial Pain

Course Summary:

This course will provide clinicians with a practical approach to the evaluation and management of patients with TMD and other chronic orofacial pain conditions. Lecture topics will include background information on contemporary pain management along with pertinent epidemiologic, anatomical and neuroanatomical factors related to pain. An emphasis will be placed on establishing an accurate diagnosis and utilizing conventional and complementary strategies to manage orofacial pain.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to

1. list the key components of a comprehensive orofacial pain evaluation.

2. identify features related to common orofacial pain conditions.

3. provide an accurate orofacial pian diagnosis.

4. recognize factors that can contribute to chronic pain.

5. list treatment strategies for patients with TMD and other orofacial pain conditions.
